Sesame Oil · 10 November 2012

Apparently, the trick to preparing tofu is sesame oil. I was apprised of this cooking tidbit after relaying a message to my wife from one of our friends at work.

Our friend, Linda, told me that she did not like tofu either and that I should relay that message to The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi. It figures that the one time I remembered to relay a message I find out I am a step behind. I found out that my wife now likes tofu. I knew that she was eating it, but I thought she was just tolerating it for my sake. What she told me was that she likes it now that she knows how to prepare it.

Sesame oil is used in lots of Asian cooking so we have had it around for a long time. Now that I am eating mostly vegan, stir fry is one of our favorite meals. My wife uses sesame oil to fry all the ingredients together into a delectable meal. Apparently, the tasty oil makes tofu palatable for The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi.

I hope that one day the kids will like tofu too. Then, we can all eat almost vegan. But before we can all go crazy for plant-based whole food, especially tofu, I suppose the kids need to start liking sesame oil first.
