The More I Run · 22 January 2013

It seems crazy, but the more I run, the more I want to run. A friend of mine said that is normal. He said, that the better shape we are in, the more we feel the need to exercise.

I think my friend is right. Our bodies do not like to be flabby. They want to be fit and trim. We just fool them into thinking that a sedentary lifestyle is the way to go. We fool ourselves into thinking that the more we can relax, the more successful we are. We no longer recognize that “normal” really means our bodies are in shape and want to exercise.

I come to this conclusion over again every time I get close to being in shape. Every time I can run most of a basketball game or run a couple miles without having to stop I think I should always be like that. I should always be in shape. Then, basketball season ends or life gets too hectic to run all the time. I get out of shape. And I stop telling myself that exercise and being fit are normal.

When it comes down to it, we all need to rethink our definition of normal. We all need to remind ourselves that running around all day like kids do should be normal. It should be what we all can do. We should all be in good enough shape that our bodies crave exercise. In reality, we should not think we are crazy when the more we run, the more we want to run.
