Still Not Bragging · 8 February 2013
I am still not bragging, but I had to punch out a new hole in my belt the other day. To make it tighter. I probably should have done it sooner since all my pants were too big and my shirts were looking sloppy. But I finally got it done.
The impetus might have been that my wife took the liberty of taking most of my big shirts out of the closet a couple weeks ago. I did not want to get rid of them all, but I do not plan on needing the larger shirts or pants any time soon. Or ever for that matter. Still, it was difficult letting them go. It is a good thing my wife helps me keep things in perspective.
Besides the perspective, she gave me some encouragement too when I punched the new holes. She said if I lose any more waist I would probably need to get new belts. Then, she hit me with a small dose of reality. She said I still have some flabbiness and waist I could get rid of. Which is true of course, but it would be nice to have at least a short time of satisfaction. A small window of opportunity in which to brag.
That is the problem with bragging rights. As soon as you use them, you find out that you no longer have them. The window closes.
My family and friends keep me honest. They keep reminding me that I can do better. That a new belt loop is not that big a deal. That I really ought to stop bragging.
