A Cheater Vegan · 12 February 2013
My wife and a friend of ours say that I am a cheater vegan.
Now, I know I am not a vegan. And I know I do not even eat vegan. However, I did not realize that I am not even close. Not just according to my wife and our friend, but according to all the vegans out there. Especially, in cyberspace.
I was looking for places to promote my blog when I discovered that vegans and even many vegetarians are fanatics. I looked on forums to see what people were saying about how they eat and found that non-vegans were unwelcome to many of the sites. Some of the rules at these forums were uninviting (you must at least have the goal of being a true vegan to join) and many of the posts were downright hostile (pescetarians – those who eat only fish – are not even close to being vegans). People even thinking about eating or using animal products were not welcome. After visiting a myriad of these places, I knew I was not going to get any vegan readers.
I know I never really set out to be vegan or to even eat vegan. And after my short foray into the vegan digital world, I am sure I do not want to go there. When it comes right down to it, I suppose that means I am okay with people calling me a cheater vegan.
