Temples of God · 19 March 2013
The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:19) so it is important to keep it healthy.
This argument that each person’s body is a temple of God is usually reserved for use against smoking or other unhealthy addictions. But we ought to use it to argue against obesity and perhaps even diabetes. After all, these are mostly diseases of choice rather than genetics or circumstances (as many would have us believe).
For the most part, we get to choose what we eat. So even though there are many unhealthy choices, we can choose to keep our temples clean. We do not need to eat junk food or put lots of sugar into our bodies. We do not need those empty calories. But we still eat them. We still choose to profane the temples God gave us.
While I am not suggesting that everybody give up meat and dairy or even every bit of junk food, I do think we need to cut way down on processed foods at the very least. We need to cleanse the temples. We need to eat the healthy foods God gave us in the beginning.
I do not necessarily mean to be so preachy, but sometimes I cannot help it. I believe God has given me a message about our bodies and sometimes that message is not popular. Then again, people who read my blog may think I am just preaching to the choir. Either way, I need to tell people to eat healthy and exercise because our bodies are temples of God.
